Mawwiage is What Bwought Us Togethew Two Yeaws Ago
this past monday andrew and i celebrated our two year wedding anniversary! although we have only been married for two years, as many of you know, we have been together for over ten years. it sometimes seems inaccurate to mark our relationship by wedding anniversaries. as though it does not encompass the depth and breadth of our relationship. i was actually a bit skeptical that being married would change the feeling of our relationship all that much. i mean, we were already living together when we got married. we had already co-mingled our finances. had i held him out as my husband and me his wife, we practically would have been married by common law. however, there definitely was a shift once we got married. it's a subtle shift, one that's hard to put my finger one. one that is often difficult to describe. mainly, it is a deeper sense of connectedness and greater feeling of commitment. i feel like we are even more committed to planning our future together and supporting one another during our respective highs and lows. this past year is a perfect example of that. andrew and i both quit our jobs in dc and moved up to new york. a pretty bold move if you ask me. andrew started his new job, while i continued my job search. moving and job hunting are two extremely stressful events and i was no peach during that time, let me tell you. it was a bit of a bumpy start to our nyc adventure and although andrew and i had our disagreements, i never once doubted that he was completely behind me and supportive of me. i know he still would have been there for me had we not been married, but this time he was steadfast in his support. also, this time around we approached our hurdles together as a team, which was also different from pre-marriage days. there's a much more palpable "we're in this together" kind of approach. don't get me wrong, i know marriage isn't for everyone and that's totally cool. but for us, it works and it's great and i feel really lucky to have found a partner with whom to share life's adventures. and now, to end the gushiest of all gushy blog entries thus far, i shall repost several of our wedding photos because if i can't do it now, when can i???
xoxo,
sara

It was really nice reading this post, because so many of my friends are in awful marriages (most of which probably shouldn't have happened in the first place), so it's great to see a success story for two reasons: 1) it makes me think less and less often that marriage is a pointless trip to unhappiness, and 2) I'm really glad to see you and Andrew are so happy, because you're both really good people.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your wedding anniversary, and I know there'll be many happy ones ahead.
hey, you should have told me not to read this one at work, it makes me very happy in a teary eyed kind of way. great post.
ReplyDeletelove,
andrew
I got teary eyed, too! Remember how I bawled at your wedding? Love to you both!
