Look! No Hands!

my experience being in nyc these past few weeks can best be likened to a roller coaster ride: the ride has had its ups, downs, and upside downs.  i know i've neglected my blog-writing duties and that's mainly because i've been hesitant to share, in a truthful way, my feelings about the move thus far.  generally speaking, i'm an optimist and i don't much like burdening others with my problems, but i've recently been encouraged by loving friends and family that it's ok to share both life's successes and struggles.  so with that, i will admit that it's been a pretty stressful few weeks.  my life mainly consists of job searching, day in and day out.  the process overall has been quite demoralizing.  i have sent out close to 20 applications since i have been up here, only to either be flat-out rejected or to never hear anything in response.  i feel that i'm a pretty qualified candidate for almost all of the jobs i apply to, but to face so much rejection really starts to make me wonder: what's wrong with me??

i know, i know.  it's a crappy economy, probably the crappiest it's been in a long, long while.  and, i also know i will not be unemployed forever.  but in the meantime, it's just been hard.  i also started my internship a few weeks ago and that too has presented its challenges.  i'm representing indigent defendants in domestic violence and criminal cases.  i know very little about the practice of criminal or family law, so it has been a trial by fire (pun/no pun intended?).  i'm not really sure this is my thing, but i think the experience will be worthwhile and i will certainly stick with it for the time being.

life hasn't been ALL bad.  andrew and i have taken advantage of the great fall weather and have been out to enjoy some of nyc's free sights.  a couple of weekends ago, we walked high line park, which is a converted old elevated railway.  it's now a beautifully landscaped walkway with great views of the city and the statue of liberty.  we also went out to cheer on the marathoners, which was a very inspirational experience.  people of all shapes, sizes, nationalities, ages, physical abilities run this race.  maybe i'll run it...some day...

i know things will all work out in the end.  but i'm being impatient.  in the wise words of veruca salt: i want it NOW, daddy! till then, i'll have to loosen my white-knuckeled grip and try and enjoy the roller coaster ride hands-free.

ps - please leave a comment - i could use some lovin' from you guys, if you're out there!
